Maybe they remember, as do I, the storm that hit in 2010 filling the creek to near the top of the banks

Rally went off pretty nicely. I arrived about 7 am on Friday morning, with plenty of work still left to do. Launched immediately into cutting in the last trail section of the Reliability Run. The creek had remained low, so my plan was for the riders to run all the way in from the far East end of the camping area.

Once that was cleared, arrowed, and tested, it was off to arrow the other trail sections of the RR. Clark had already marked the road sections, so it was up to me to do the "fun" stuff. Along with arrows, I was nailing up signs along the course with movie quotes on them. I had cooked up this idea to include a trivia contest as part of the Reliability Run challenges. Riders were encouraged to check out the signs along the way, then fill out a form with their guesses of what movies the quotes were from. Awards were in the form of gas cards for the top-three most correct answers.

So, I rode and stapled and rode and stapled - and rode and stapled. Oh, and did I mention I was riding my stock, 1973 Honda XL250 Motosport? Two reasons: dead-reliable, and low seat-height. Lots easier than climbing up and down off of the stratospheric seat of my late model dual-sport.

The arrow-ing effort took well into late afternoon - so long that Clark and John Schultz ended up coming out to look for me. But, we got 'er all donbe, then headed back to camp, got cleaned up, and joined up with a big bunch of folks for the Dinner Run. This was especially fun for me, as it was the first ride on our "new" '67 Triumph Daytona. I actually bought it for the wife, but she was not in attendance, so the bike was mine to enjoy. Great ride, nice bunch of bikes along, great food. Thanks to John Schultz for once again leading us out and back on a great excursion.

We all made it back safely, hit the sack for some well-earned rest, and were up early Saturday morning. The weather was holding, and all looked good for the day's Reliability Run and Trials events. More in next post.

Rain had been forecast for the entire weekend, but the weather was being kind to us as Saturday brought another sunny and pleasant day. Also, conditions were just about perfect out on the trails, with both the Reliability Run and the Trials event due to enjoy near-perfect minimal dust and mud. RARE for Ohio, ULTRA-rare for the Spring Rally.

So, we headed out on the Reliability Run, and it was without a doubt the best-ever. A tick over ninety miles, in the aforementioned very favorable conditions. Riders trickled in, all reporing a very enjoyable ride.

Meanwhile, the Trials was underway and also going off very well. Bud Kubena described having laid out "friendlier" sections than in years past, which the riders all appeared to be really enjoying. Anyone who has ridden Trials at the OVBSAOC events knows full well of the severity of the natural terrain - hence little effort needed to present the riders with plenty of challenges. Indeed, the effort is in assuring less than pro-level difficulty.

So, the day wound down with everyone feeling quite pleased and satisfied with the weather, the rides, and all the neat bikes, parts, and people in attendance.

Sunday brought another beautiful day, as well as day two of the Trials. I personally was back out on the Reliability Run course, already working to take down arrows. For those of you not familiar with the Buckeye State, it is actually one of the most populous in the Union, which makes trails that much more difficult to find and secure, and relations with the area residents that much more important. So, pulling down those arrows promptly is yet another effort on our part to be "good neighbors".

So, back at the club grounds, the Trials event wrapped up, awards were handed out, and things slowly wound down, with folks loading up and heading back out into the real world. We had a great turnout, great weather, and everything went off just about as nicely and smoothly as could have been expected. Thanks to everyone who attended, and we very much look forward to a bigger, and that much better August meet. See you all then!
